Jake Paul knocked out Ben Askren in the first round of their highly-anticipated boxing match Saturday night in Atlanta.
Paul, the YouTube and social media celebrity, connected with a right hand that sent Askren sprawling to the canvas at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Askren, the retired MMA fighter, reached his feet and took the mandatory eight-count. But the referee waved off the fight at 1:59 of the first round, ruling Askren was not in condition to continue even though Askren indicated he wanted to continue.
Paul improved to 3-0 with three knockouts.
Before the fight, UFC president Dana White said he would bet $1 million that Paul would lose to Askren.
Paul, 24, was entering his third fight as a pro. He beat YouTuber AnEsonGib in 2019 by TKO in his pro debut, then knocked out retired NBA standout Nate Robinson in his second fight.
Askren, 36, was making his pro boxing debut. He was 19-2 as an MMA fighter and was a two-time Division I college wrestling champion.
Prior to the fight, Paul had expressed hope of eventually fighting Conor McGregor or Floyd Mayweather. But there is no certainly about who he might face next.
