The Chiefs were destroyed 40-22 by the Philadelphia Eagles at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
It ended any hopes of a historic three-peat, which would have been a first in the history of the league.
Mahomes has been having a break from the NFL, spending time with family and friends at the start of this year.
And he has now announced a huge shake-up to his appearance following the Eagles hammering.
The 29-year-old revealed he had a “bad taste” following the Super Bowl defeat.
That has led to the quarterback showing off a brand new haircut, leaving fans stunned.
“I’ve wanted to do it for a while, but it was kind of one of those superstitions,” he told reporters on Thursday.
“I kept winning the Super Bowl, which is a good thing, but I don’t want to cut the hair while I’m doing it.
“I told everybody during the season, if we win three in a row, or if we lose, I’m getting a haircut. That’s enough.”
Mahomes was famous for his curly locks, which have now been trimmed down.
“I’m very excited,” he added.
“I looked at some videos from last year and I can’t believe all you guys let me keep that nappy hair for so long.
“I look way better now with the short hair, so I’ll be keeping this going forward.”
Mahomes opened up on his experience at the NFL Draft, ahead of Thursday night’s event.
