Fagradalsfjall in the Reykjanes peninsula, Iceland, began erupting at around 10pm GMT. Roads in the Reykjanes Peninsula have closed and people are asked to refrain from trying to see the eruption. The eruption occurs far from inhabited areas but air traffic has been halted temporarily while the Icelandic Met Office prepares its ashfall prediction, which will likely take about 40 minutes. According to website Volcano Discovery “181 earthquakes occurred near (under) the volcano during 23 hours”, with the last being recorded quake 55 minutes ago as of writing.
