DEAR DEIDRE: SINCE, I’ve gone back to work after the pandemic, my job has changed to fit in with other staff.
I wouldn’t mind and I am a team player, but I was a chef working dreadful hours so retrained to specialise in pastry because I could prepare my dishes ahead of the customer reservations.

We’ve taken on new staff since the return to work and it seems they pick and choose their hours, but I’m doing long shifts yet again and I’m expected to fill in when needed.
It just doesn’t seem fair. I’m 24 and want a life outside the workplace, but right now I’m stuck in a job where my opinion doesn’t count.
DEIDRE SAYS: If your pastry chef role came with a new job description including the hours, talk to your HR department about the fact this is not what you signed up for.
If they fail to take your feelings on board, contact Acas (acas.org.uk, 0300 123 1100) which aims to enable better working relationships for employees as well as employers.
