A daredevil YouTuber took on a scorching 5km run in Kuwait City, the ‘world’s hottest city’, where temperatures soar to a staggering 53.9C.
Despite the mercury dipping to ‘just’ 51C during his visit, the heat proved so intense that locals likened it to feeling like ‘choking’ due to the ferocity of the temperaturss.
In a message to his followers, Ben Morris YouTube said: “I can’t put into words what this heat feels like. Ever since 2016 this city has been recording temperatures over the 50C mark, hitting a climax of 53.9C.”
Describing the immense heat he faced, Ben said: “More than 4million people call this place home. It feels like I’m in a sauna. This is crazy.”
Despite a nationwide heatwave warning being issued, Ben still braved the conditions. He said: “I decided to visit at a time when there was a nationwide warning over a heatwave that was coming. The floor is boiling, I am dying. My thermometer says 51C,” reports the Mirror.
Describing Kuwait’s blistering heat, Ben revealed: “I have never been in heat like this before. I think I underestimated just how hot this place really was.”
During his travels, Ben encountered a local tour guide who described the overwhelming heat: “You cannot breathe,” he agreed, adding that it makes people feel like they are “choking”.
Adding a twist to his adventure, Ben attempted a 5km jog at a more tolerable 39C, sharing with his audience: “I decided to test just how hot it is outside. The time is currently 5.30pm and it’s 39C.”
Tackling the challenge head-on, he noted: “I want to see if I can complete a 5km without dying or passing out. Ladies and gentlemen please don’t try this at home. The heat is starting to make me feel quite light-headed, it’s strange.”
Kuwait City, often dubbed the world’s hottest city with temperatures soaring over 50C, has been described by locals as ‘uninhabitable’ during summer months, with reports of birds dropping from the sky due to the extreme heat.
In response to these harsh conditions, authorities in the Middle Eastern nation have prohibited outdoor work during the peak summer period.
During the visit, the scorching temperatures caused Ben’s camera to shut down just an hour after his arrival. You can check out more of Ben’s experiences on his YouTube channel here.
