'I fought off a burglar using a pan but my wife wasn't happy about my reaction'

A resourceful homeowner successfully fought off a burglar using just a frying pan – and later faced the ires of his wife for the choice.

Jason Williams had been driving back home from work when he was alerted someone had broken into his Chicago, Illinois home by his alarm system.

Mr William rushed back to the property and entered, grabbing the first item available to scare the intruder off – a frying pan.

He told local network ABC 7 Chicago: “I came in the house, I looked if there was an available weapon… there was a frying pan lying there, so I grabbed the frying pan, and at the same time, the burglar came downstairs.

“At this point, it was fight or flight, and I would rather do the fighting.”

Footage from an outside security camera caught the moment the homeowner chased the burglar out of his home as he repeatedly struck him with the frying pan.

The burglar can be seen running ahead of Mr William as he attempts to shield his head with his hands but receives a blow to the upper arm instead.

The wannabe thief managed to ultimately reach the front gate and run off as a police officer started chasing him. He was arrested across the street.

Mr Williams conceded the incised could have evolved very differently for him and was glad he had been able to successfully chase the burglar off without getting injured.

He, however, noted his wife was “not happy” about his decision to confront the intruded with a pan.

The homeowner added: “This could have had a different ending, and I’m glad it had a good one.

“My wife’s not happy about the decision I made… probably wouldn’t do it again, but it is what it is.”
