How to remove stains on white towels with simple laundry hack

Having already done a normal laundry wash, the stains on the white towels didn’t lift, which meant it was time to try out a cleaning hack.

A TikTok video, posted by cleaning professional Babs, recommended a baking soda and white vinegar combination to put in the wash cycle.

Keen to give it a go, I went to my local Asda supermarket to get the necessary items. Unfortunately for me, the store didn’t have any Stardrops White Vinegar so I decided to look for an alternative.

Curious to try the new Ace Ultra for White laundry bleach, the product is meant to have a “floral bouquet” smell and should “revive the whiteness”.

I bought the one-litre bottle for £1.83 hoping it would remove the stains on my white towels.

All I needed to do was put the usual detergent I use, Surf Concentrated Liquid Detergent (which smells gorgeous with the “Passion Bloom” scent) and Ace laundry bleach.

In the washing machine drawer, I put the ACE laundry bleach in the section marked with the flower-like symbol, as per pack instructions.

For those without the flower symbol, it’s recommended to put the laundry bleach into the drawer marked with the “CL” symbol.

Filling up the drawer section till the maximum line, I then put on a 40-degree one-hour wash.

While the whites that came out the wash certainly look brighter, the stains remained. Worse still, all my white laundry smells terribly of bleach, so it’s not a product I would recommend.

I noticed the overpowering smell as soon as I opened the washing machine drum, and now my clothes smell of it too. If the smell lifts once dried is yet to be revealed, but I most definitely won’t be suggesting ACE for stain removal.

What is the white vinegar and baking soda cleaning hack?

As previously written about, the white vinegar and baking soda cleaning hack is meant to brighten and whiten laundry.

Babs advised to add half a cup of baking soda to the detergent dispenser and half a cup of white vinegar to the fabric softener dispenser.
