How to make your WFH space a clean and tidy haven – 'sparks joy'

While the coronavirus pandemic is still unfortunately a big part of our lives, it is important to disinfect surfaces regularly – even ones at home. Be mindful of cleansing your workspace so you can enjoy a clean and calm working environment. 

Although working in your own house can protect you somewhat, it is important to regularly clean your desk, particularly if there are other people in your house and they also use the workspace.

According to Space.IQ, research from the University of Arizona revealed that desks contain 400 times more bacteria than the average toilet seat.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said: “Wear disposable gloves when cleaning and disinfecting surfaces. Gloves should be discarded after each cleaning.”

Real Simple gives some easy tips to guarantee a neat workspace.

They recommend removing books and papers and using an extendable duster to revitalise shelves.

Real Homes added: “Water rings from slopped tea left behind on a wooden desk may be able to be removed with a hair dryer. Simply turn it on high, aim it at the rings and watch it disappear. If it doesn’t, try to rub mayonnaise on it.”

Once you have finished with the nitty gritty of cleaning, it’s time to spruce up your space.

Tidying icon Marie Kondo, author of the famous ‘The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up’ and recipient of 4million Instagram followers, believes that your workspace should make you happy.

After all, you are there for most of the day.

In her book Spark Joy, Marie said: “Don’t make your office solely practical.”

She added: “It’s important to add a playful touch precisely because it’s a workspace.”

You can opt for a candle, wall hanging, ornament or plant.

Add a pop of colour to your home office if you can to keep you wide awake and get those creative juices flowing.

Create “an office that sparks joy”.
