House hunting is a lifelong goal for many people who want stability and a place to call their own. While it is possible to buy a home outright, most prospective buyers will need a mortgage. They can extend an already lengthy process with multiple stages.

But they don’t address the length of time this can take, and each stage will vary.

In short, the process can take between six weeks to eight months to complete.

Stage four: Finalising the purchase

With final contracts, completed searches and more in hand, people can finally complete their hunt.

They will need to agree on a completion date, ranging from days to weeks, after taking the necessary funds from their lender, getting insurance and signing documents.

Once again, this could take three months, with another two post-purchase to smooth over some details.
