Take it from Lindsay Ell, folks: leave the tour bus door closed.
The guitar-slinging country star showed up on the red carpet of the CMT Music Awards on Wednesday night sporting some unexpected accessories: a cast on her foot and a pair of crutches, all spruced up with silver glitter to match her dress.
Ell was happy to give the backstory. Last weekend, she said, her dog Hendrix managed to escape her tour bus, and Ell made a daring leap down the stairs — minus shoes.
“Naturally, like any dog owner, (I ran) after her, but I was in socks. I jumped from the top step of the bus onto the parking lot and I just landed wrong,” Ell told Entertainment Tonight on the CMT red carpet. “I broke it pretty good.”

Ell says she doesn’t hold it against Hendrix — a Pomeranian she adopted during the pandemic.
“I just think that’s what life is about,” Ell told the outlet, adding that she’s looking at an eight-week recovery. “If we’ve learned anything from the last year and a half, it’s how to take lemons and turn them into lemonade.”
After being part of a fiery all-female band to open up the CMT Music Awards on Wednesday, Ell is gearing up to get back out on the road. She’ll tour with Blake Shelton on the star’s “Friends and Heroes 2021” trek, which kicks off in Omaha, Nebraska in August.
