Home heating experts Boiler Guide is urging customers to take advantage of the Government’s Green Homes Grants scheme in order to improve their home’s energy efficiency for a fraction of the usual cost. The Green Homes Grant scheme is set to have around £1.5 billion of its funding cut from April 2021. However, a whopping £320million in vouchers is still waiting to be claimed.
Homeowners have until March 31 2022 to save up to a third on the cost of installing insulation or a renewable heating system.
Homeowners and residential landlords can apply for a Green Homes Grant voucher which will go towards the cost of installing energy efficient improvements in the home.
Vouchers will cover two-thirds of the cost of eligible improvements with a maximum government contribution of £5,000.
David Holmes, founder of Boiler Guide said they have seen a “huge increase” in inquiries for renewable heating systems.

These throw out far less carbon than gas and oil boilers and, depending on the heating system being replaced, can be cheaper to run.
If they are installed before March 2022, you would be eligible or seven years of payments under the Renewable Heat Incentive scheme.
If you already have a renewable system, you can also apply for a second grant of equal value which can include draught-proofing, replacing single glazed windows with double/triple glazing, installing energy-efficient replacement doors, heating system controls and/or hot water tank thermostats.
Why should you apply for the grant?
With energy bills set to rise imminently, investing in an energy efficient heating system has never been more important.
How to apply for a Green Homes Grant
Homeowners can apply for the scheme until March 31, 2022.
The online application process will check whether you are eligible for a voucher, which home improvements you are looking to make and how much it will likely cost.
You will then be able to find installers who are registered with the scheme so you can compare quotes and apply for your voucher.
Boiler Guide founder David Holmes said: “Applying for the grant is relatively straightforward and only takes a few minutes.
“When you consider how much you can save in both the installation of renewable heating systems and future energy savings, I would urge customers to not hesitate in applying.”
