Motorists can book in a free car check by simply buying any other retail item either in-store or online. This means a driver can purchase a simple car bucket for just £1 and secure an MOT for no extra charge.

“It also coincides with the easing of lockdown restrictions.

“We would encourage anyone shopping at Halfords to take advantage of this offer as it will keep our roads safer, help drivers with their costs and means they can keep their cars on the road.

“The MOT test remains the best way to ensure vehicles are safe to drive.”

Research from Halfords has found a worrying one-in-five cars have been driven on UK roads without a valid MOT test.

A total of 31 percent of motorists said they didn’t realise their car insurance agreement could also be invalidated if they did not have a valid test certificate.

Halfords said: “Each year, your car must undergo an MOT test and pass all of the necessary safety requirements to show that it is roadworthy.

“During your MOT, our friendly experts will check all of the important car parts of your vehicle to ensure it meets the legal standards set out by the DSVA to help keep you and your family as safe as possible on the road.

“Our specialists are authorised to test Class 4 and Class 7 vehicles, including MOTs for large vans, pickups and transits, so book an MOT near you at a local Halfords test centre today.

“At Halfords, we aim to keep your yearly car MOT test as stress-free as possible, so not only do we send out free MOT reminders, but we also open many of our local MOT test centres 7 days a week, allowing you to fit your MOT in around your busy schedule.”
