Dennis the Menace star Gloria Henry, real name Gloria Eileen McEniry, has died a day after her 98th birthday her daughter Erin confirmed on Instagram in an emotional tribute to the actress. She also informed The Hollywood Reporter that her mum died at her Los Angeles home.

Her family honoured her with a loving post to let fans know of her passing, noting the last year had been both “beautiful and heartbreaking”.

Sharing an image of her late mum in front of a pair of painted wings on a wall to Instagram, Erin penned: “She’s flying now, free of her body.

“She left on a countdown 4 3 2 1 @ 3:40pm.

“This last year with her has been beautiful and heartbreaking,” she continued.

Erin thanked everyone for reaching out during her grief, writing: “Thank you all for following me and supporting me on this journey – this beautiful land mine.

“Goodbye Momma, I love your guts forever.”

The veteran actress was best known for her role as Alice Mitchell, Dennis the Menaces’ mum from 1959 to 1963 on the CBS family sitcom, starring alongside Herbert Anderson as her husband Henry, and Jay North as her troublesome son Dennis.

Over the next couple of years, she began to star B-films, such as Adventures in Silverado, The Arkansas Swing, Johnny Alegro and many others.

The course of her long-running TV and film career has seen the actress gain 65 acting credits to her name.

In 1989, she appeared in a small role as an art-collecting society matron in the prime time soap opera, Dallas.

But three years later, Gloria acknowledged that she had become “so associated” with the role of Alice Mitchell, that she was being typecast into mother roles.
