The BBC show, Gardeners’ World, returned this evening, giving garden enthusiasts inspiration for their own outdoor space. Monty Don was joined by a plethora of gardeners who shared their top tips on everything from houseplants to dahlias. During the show, Monty showed viewers how to care for houseplants.
Most plant pots have holes in them to allow for drainage.
When a plant has outgrown its pot, sometimes the roots protrude out of the drainage holes.
“This need repotting, so I’m going to repot this,” he added.
Monty continued: “Now, what this needs is really good drainage.
The gardener then placed the plant – which had been removed from its original pot – into the loose compost mix.
Monty said the plant will need watering after being put in the new pot.
He explained: “That needs watering, but you’re looking at keeping it pretty dry.”
He recommended misting the spider plant daily in order to keep it hydrated but not overwatered.
