Fugitive wanted for arson in Oregon captured in Connecticut

A man accused of arson in Oregon was arrested in Connecticut on Tuesday, roughly 3,000 miles from the city where he was wanted.

Robert Parmalee, 40, from Ritzville, Wash., was spotted walking along the shoulder of a highway in Windsor Locks around 11 a.m. A trooper stopped Parmalee in the interest of safety, Connecticut State Police said.

Troopers soon learned Parmalee had an active warrant out of Oregon for his arrest on a charge of first-degree arson. He was taken into custody and charged with being a fugitive from justice.

The warrant was issued by the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office in Grants Pass, Ore. and had been approved for nationwide extradition. No other details about the arson case were released.

Parmalee was taken to the Hartford Correctional Center and held on a $500,000 bond.

He’s set to be arraigned in Hartford Superior Court on Wednesday ahead of being extradited back to Oregon to face the arson charge.
