A rogue FedEx driver dumped packages into an Alabama ravine six different times, depriving at least 450 customers of receiving their deliveries before Thanksgiving, officials said.

The Blount County Sheriff’s Office has not disclosed the name of the driver, however, several fellow FedEx workers spent Thanksgiving Day delivering the missing 300-400 packages to a warehouse, where they were scanned to be delivered to owners.

‘Investigators have determined that the driver dumped at least six times making FedEx a victim of six different Theft of Property cases. As of right now we are looking at around 450 individual victims, some in Blount County some not, that investigators are attempting to work their cases,’ Sheriff Mark Moon wrote on Facebook.

The department also shared pictures of the FedEx workers sent by the company from ‘over all of the South’ along with multiple trucks to complete the task, as the community thanked the drivers for sacrificing spending Thanksgiving eve with their families and loaded packages instead.

A sheriff’s deputy meanwhile stood guard to protect the packages from thieves.

The shipping company said they are actively cooperating with law enforcement in the investigation that began on November 24 and that the driver has since been fired.

But those who had their packages dumped in the ravine say that firing the culprit is not enough. Chris Finchum, whose package with an Xbox bought as a Christmas gift was recently returned to him, demanded the driver be prosecuted for his actions.

‘This wasn’t no two- or three-dollar deal. This was thousands of dollars. People’s hard-earned money that they work for just thrown off in a ditch somewhere. It’s just like ok, fired him, good. Let’s take him to court. Let’s get him some charges. He needs to be prosecuted,’ Finchum told news station 6 WBRC.

‘It’s heartbreaking that someone would take advantage of people when they are supposed to be delivering kids toys to them for Christmas,’ she said.

The sheriff office said deputies responded to the area where the packages were discovered on the afternoon of November 24th after the resident of the private property where the ravine is alerted them of the packages.

Blount County local Natasha Abney said her neighbor had found the dumped boxes on his property, saying some had fallen ‘as far as 60 feet’ down into the ravine.

‘Some busted open, some not,’ Abney told ABC News, adding that the ravine was a good distance away from the road and ‘no where you can easily get to’.

After reporting the abandoned deliveries to the Blount County officers, Abney said people had been driving past her house to go and search for their missing packages.

‘Everybody that had a package on that truck that was thrown down that hill has been wronged and it’s a really sad situation,’ she added.

In a statement released after the ordeal, FedEx said: ‘We are taking steps to recover and transport the affected packages as quickly as possible. Images shared by the Sheriff’s office showed boxes of various sizes littered around the wooded area. They alerted locals about the find on Facebook in case their package hadn’t arrived.

‘To everyone in West Blount County missing packages from FedEx. I currently have a deputy on a location where it appears 300-400 boxes of assorted sizes have been thrown off a ravine,’ they said.

‘An area manager from FedEx is en route to the scene. Hopefully we will have some answers soon.’
