Experts from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) said the results of a recent US-based trial of the vaccine may have been drawn from “outdated information” that “provided an incomplete view of the efficacy data”.
But the White House’s chief coronavirus medical adviser Dr Anthony Fauci has insisted that it is “likely” that the vaccine is still “very good”.
Following a statement from the NIH, he claimed the agency’s data and safety monitoring board (DSMB) “got concerned” the data contained in AstraZeneca’s public statement “were somewhat outdated and might in fact be misleading a bit”.
But speaking to ABC News’ “Good Morning America” programme, Dr Fauci said: “This likely a very good vaccine.”
