- England stormed to a record 20-0 victory over Latvia in a World Cup qualifier
- Tuesday’s victory was the highest winning margin of any senior England side
- The Lionesses’ previous biggest winning margin was a 13-0 triumph in 2005
- Ellen White scored a hat-trick to become England’s highest goalscorer in history
- Beth Mead and Alessia Russo secured hat-tricks as Lauren Hemp bagged four
England were always expected to beat Latvia comfortably but Sarina Wiegman’s side were unplayable as they ran riot to a record 20-0 victory thanks to 10 different goalscorers.
It was a record-breaking night for Ellen White who struck twice within the first ten minutes to surpass the great Kelly Smith to become the Lionesses’ highest scorer, before netting another in the second-half to secure her hat-trick.
It took just two minutes for Beth Mead to get on the scoresheet for England as she scored her first of a first-half hat-trick. Lauren Hemp found the net for her first ever England goal, adding to White’s 46th and 47th, before bagging a second.
Ella Toone scored the last time the two sides met and she repeated the feat to put Sarina Wiegman’s side 8-0 up heading into the break.
The Lionesses continued to run riot in the second-half. White secured her hat-trick as Latvia goalkeeper Asnate Lindermane fumbled her effort from distance.
England were awarded a penalty after Mead went through on goal, only to be bundled into by Ligita Tumane. Georgia Stanway slotted the ball into goal from the spot to put England 10-0 up – the score they last beat Latvia with.
But the Lionesses went on to double that result as Jess Carter opened her account for England before Beth England and Jill Scott took the hosts into record territory.
Alessia Russo tipped them past the previous 13-0 mark as she saw home her first goal for England. The substitute then got in on the hat-trick act.
Jordan Nobbs, who came on for goalscorer Ella Toone, also scored as Hemp repeated her first-half performance to take her own tally to four and England’s to 20.
