Eleven people stranded for more than TWO HOURS on theme park ride have to be rescued by LA firefighters after power outage suddenly shuts down Transformers 3D attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood

  • Eleven people were trapped on a ride at Universal Studios Hollywood Thursday for more than two hours
  • The Transformers 3D came to a halt after a power outage in the area
  • Rescuers with Los Angeles County Fire Department were summoned at 3:45 p.m. to rescue the thrill-seekers
  • The group was freed more than two hours later around 6 p.m.
  • The power outage also impacted a Harry Potter ride, which also shut down for a period of time

Eleven people on a ride at Universal Studios in Los Angeles had to be rescued after the attraction suddenly came to a halt on Thursday evening due to a power outage.

The Transformers 3D ride suddenly ground to a halt around 3:45 p.m. after what the theme park called a ‘brief power dip.’

At least 11 people had to be rescued from the ride – bills itself as ‘the greatest battle you’ll ever ride’ – by local authorities after sitting motionless for more than two hours.

Nobody was injured during the unscheduled stop.

At one stage, emergency crews could be seen on local TV footage as they set about freeing those who had become trapped.

The riders were stuck until about 6 p.m., when a local fire crew on a ladder were able to eventually release them to safety.

A popular ride called ‘Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey’ was also affected by the power outage – though it was quickly restarted and those riders did not need rescuing.

Universal Studios Hollywood issued a statement on Thursday evening, saying that despite the interruption the theme park remained open and operational.

‘As a result of a power interruption from So Cal Edison, we experienced a brief power dip which resulted in exiting guests from some attractions.

‘Power has been fully restored and we’re working to get a few remaining attractions back online. The theme park remains open.’
