EASTENDERS’ Sam Mitchell won’t get a good reaction when she returns to Walford with Sharon Watts throwing a drink in her face.

The notorious only daughter of Peggy Mitchell will again be played by actress Kim Medcalf in the BBC soap.

And she will make her comeback on April 19.

The BBC have revealed a first look at her return showing Sam stood in the Square with her bags having arrived from the airport.

She ends up in the Albert and doused in a drink as a furious Sharon rages at her.

But fans are convinced they have spotted a clue about her return already.

Could a surprise return bring better days for the Mitchells?

While his son Ben is trying to overcome the trauma from a horrific homophobic attack, which occurred earlier this year, Phil continues to spend time behind bars.

In recent episodes, Phil’s partner Kat Slater received a mysterious and dangerous package containing a gun.

The owner of Kat’s Cabs managed to hide the gun from her son, troublesome son Tommy Moon, in the hopes it would be collected soon.

But for fans, this is only a sign that Sam Mitchell is back in Walford to stir up more trouble.

According to BBC One viewers, the gun must have a link with Sam.

“Calling it the gun is for Sam and she’s already back in Walford”, one EastEnders fan commented on social media.

“We also don’t know whose gun that was that Phil wanted rid of. For all we know, that gun could be connected to Sam”, another penned while a third chimed in: “I reckon the gun is for Sam.”

The younger sister of Phil and Grant Mitchell (who moved to Portugal) has not been seen in Albert Square since 2016, with Danniella Westbrook in the role.

Soap bosses announced Sam’s imminent return and actress Kim Medcalf is set to replace Danniella in upcoming weeks.

She was even spotted returning to filming in February, 2022.

Kim originally took on the role from Danniella in 2002 and continued to play Sam until 2005.

When Sam returned to Walford in 2009, Danniella was back to play her.

Before fleeing to Portugal alone, Sam attended her mother Peggy’s funeral and abandoned her only son Ricky with his father Jack Branning.

Since then, Ricky has been living a normal life with his father Jack and stepmother Denise Fox, attending Walford Primary School as a Year 6 student.

EastEnders bosses have reportedly been in talks with Kim since last autumn.

“Sam’s return has been on the cards for some time”, a source said.

“They felt she was a natural fit for this version of Sam. It’s nothing against Danniella, she created an icon as the character.”

“But as often happens in soaps, the bosses wanted to recast and take Sam in a different direction. Kim is due to begin filming in two weeks and everyone is very excited.”

Kim said in a statement, sharing her eagerness: “When the BBC approached me last year to reprise the role of Sam I was thrilled.”

“She’s a brilliant character and I can’t wait to get back in the Square and work with the amazing cast.”
