A 21-year-old Pennsylvania woman died in the Bronx early Saturday when a BMW collided with the car she was riding in and sent it crashing into a parked truck, police said.
Jinmaris Melendez of Lancaster, Pa., was in the passenger seat of a Ford Focus at about 2:45 a.m. when it was involved in a collision with a purple BMW at the corner of Viele Ave. and Manida St., a desolate stretch of commercial buildings in Hunts Point, cops said.
The force of the impact slammed the Ford into a parked box truck, causing Melendez to suffer extensive head and body injuries, cops said.
Emergency medical technicians rushed her to Lincoln Hospital, but she couldn’t be saved.
Police said Melendez’s Ford was traveling east on Viele Ave. when it smashed into the BMW, which was heading north on Manida St. It wasn’t immediately clear which car sparked the crash.
A 37-year-old man driving the Ford and two women, ages 22 and 23, in the back seat also were rushed to Lincoln Hospital and had non-life threatening injuries, cops said.
The 23-year-old man driving the BMW suffered minor injuries and remained at the scene. An unidentified female passenger in the BMW ran from the scene and had not yet been questioned, a police source said.
No charges were immediately filed.
