This week, the ONS released the latest employment data for the UK and Stepehen Lowe, Just Group’s communications director, broke down the figures: “[The] figures notes that falls in employment among workers aged 65+ and those aged 16-24 have been mainly responsible for the overall fall in employment both over the last year and the last quarter.

yeah “The employment rate for older workers was a record 1.1 percentage points lower over the year at 10.4 percent. Until a year ago the number of those aged 65+ and employed had been on a long-term upward trend but that came to a halt with the pandemic with working women seemingly affected most.

“There are now 130,000 fewer age 65+ workers than in the first quarter of last year and 95,000 of them – more than two in three – are women. “

“There have also been more women aged 65+ moving into retirement 181,000 compared to 126,000 men in the same period.
