Drivers will soon face 'tougher sanctions' on Scottish roads under new plans

They aim to achieve this through five pillars of safety improvements which will ensure the country will have “the best road safety performance in the world”.

The improvements will focus on providing safer road users, safer vehicles, safer speeds, safer roads and an improved post-crash response.

The latest data shows 165 people were killed on Scottish roads in 2019 with more than 2,000 people seriously injured.

IAM RoadSmart’s Neil Greig backed the new plans but warned road safety improvements must not be the “victim of any budget cuts”.
