Drivers fume as cops show off £200,000 Rolls Royce police cruiser: 'This is disgusting'

Residents erupted after police showed off a new £200,000 Rolls Royce police car in a recruitment video.

Florida forces the Miami Beach Police unveiled the pricey motor in a post on X, formerly Twitter, in a drive to bring in new recruits.

The police department’s post lauded its current staff, saying: “MBPD and professional staff exemplify the highest standards of dedication and quality policing in our unparalleled commitment to the residents and visitors we serve,” adding that “We are thrilled to introduce this stunning addition to the MBPD recruitment team – courtesy of @bramanmotors!”

It was accompanied by a clip showing off the agency’s new Rolls-Royce squad car with two officers riding ahead on motorcycles like a Presidential motorcade, with the agency saying the souped-up roller is a recruitment tool.

MBPD spokesperson Christopher Bess, said the car was integrated into recruitment ads as “an innovative and fun way to connect with the consumer market.”

The agency included a link encouraging people to apply in a follow-up tweet.

“Learn more about how YOU can be part of the elite team at Miami Beach PD by clicking the link below,” it read, adding: “Note: This vehicle is part of Braman Motors’ fleet, and they sponsored all costs associated with this project in accordance with the CMB Policy.”

Many people reacted furiously online, with some mistakenly suggesting that public money had been spent on buying the high-end ride.

One irate X user shared the video and fumed: “Miami Beach Police just unveiled a Rolls-Royce cop car, done in collaboration with a dealership to recruit police. I wish I was making this up.”

Among the other responses were, “This is disgusting,” while another commenter asked: “How does this help protect and serve,” while a third said: “And why do you need a commercial?”

Someone else quipped that it would be “funny as hell when someone steals the Rolls-Royce police car!!!”

A further X user warned the department: “Wait till the first scheduled maintenance.”

Meanwhile, others appeared to be happy with the flash new wheels, pushing back against efforts to defund other police forces.

“Compare this to cities that defund the police,” they wrote, adding: “Florida doing it right.”
