During Monday morning’s episode of This Morning, hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield welcomed James Martin into the kitchen where he demonstrated how to cook mussels. Holly, who initially revealed she was “a bit scared” of the dish, went on to really like them as she and Phillip tucked in. Everything was going so well until James told her that the mussels which were whiter in colour, were male.
Celebrity chef James demonstrated how to make two different versions of Moules Mariniere.
Phillip enjoyed a bowl of mussels in sauce, which was accompanied by some bread.
Holly, who is not a fan of the seafood dish, got to try the same meal, although, it was served in a bowl made out of bread.
James began the cooking segment by adding onions, butter and garlic into a pan before adding celery and leek.

“You cook it out with some fresh thyme but I think this is the key to it, a bay leaf,” the chef explained.
“You add some white wine and then you reduce it down a little bit.
“We’ve got some mussels from Cornwall, some grade-A mussels.
“Then you’ve got the cream, double cream. But, when I was in France they used a thing called Mountain Cream.”
Holly seemed to be really enjoying the dish until James went into detail about the mussels being male.
“I’m loving it,” she continued. “And, as I said I’m a bit scared, but I love it.”
“The whiter ones are the male mussels…,” James explained before Holly interrupted.
“Don’t tell me that, I don’t need to know about personal information about what I am eating,” Holly protested. “I was doing so well.”
