The discount health, home and beauty brand established its first store in Durham in 1988.
There are currently more than 500 Savers branches across the UK, but one will soon be axed as part of widespread store closures.
Savers is loved by customers for its bargain beauty and healthcare products and often has great deals on major brands, though shoppers in Pembrokeshire will soon lose their local.
The popular brand announced that it will be closing its Riverside Quay premises this summer.
A spokesperson for Savers told local news outlet The Pembrokeshire Herald that it hoped the current staff would be “redeployed” to other locations.
They added: “We can confirm that our Savers Haverfordwest store will be closing in the summer month – we are looking to offer roles to staff at local stores where possible.”
Savers in Haverfordwest has been a staple of the Riverside Quay shopping area for many years. However, shoppers have been reassured by the brand that they can continue to shop online for the same stock they find in stores.
The news of the closure comes as other developments are hoped to bring increased footfall to the riverside area.
But despite long-term plans to attract visitors, locals have shared concerns that the shopping district is becoming more and more empty.
One person took to a Pembrokeshire Facebook group to say: “More shops and banks closing Haverfordwest Savers and Halifax bank Haverfordwest Pembrokeshire. Pushing us all online is not for us all looking like very little choice.”
Another resident commented: “This is what happens when councillors give the go-ahead to build a retail park next to a town that’s in walking distance. You destroyed the town and its community.”
A third said: “Was in savers yesterday another nice shop hits the dust – love savers.”
