Adrian Shann, 31, was “outraged” after noticing the branding “Shake, Squeeze and Squirt” on the labels during his first-ever visit to a Pizza Hut on Wednesday. The customer said he feels the words have connotations to “swingers” and they shouldn’t be used by a family chain.
Speaking to Hull Live, Adrian said: “It literally sounds like an app for swingers. I do not understand how someone could put that sentence together, it’s awful.
“It is because of the chain’s marketing aimed at children that I am worried.
“If I had my niece with me, I would be worried. It’s definitely not appropriate.”
But Pizza Hut, which has more than 200 restaurants in the UK, has used the ‘Shake, Squeeze and Squirt’ branding on its tomato ketchup bottles since 2019.
Adrian visited a branch near Dairycoates, Hull, and claimed he saw a family on an adjacent table laughing about the branding.
“The adults had a laugh and then the children were asking their parents to tell them about it,” Adrian said.
“The barbecue sauce one said ‘Squeeze’, but the ketchup one said that, it put me off using it.
“It’s not innocent in my eyes.
“It’s not hidden, it’s on the tables.
“They need to make it kid friendly. I hope they change it.”
