Dider Deschamps ‘starting to lose control of France after five straight draws with world champions losing their balance and discipline’

  • France drew 1-1 with Ukraine in World Cup qualifying on Saturday
  • Les Blues have now failed to win any of their last five matches
  • They crashed out of Euro 2020 early despite being the favourites

Serious questions of Didier Deschamps are starting to be asked after France failed to win a game for the fifth time in a row against Ukraine on Saturday.

Anthony Martial rescued a point for Les blues at the weekend while Antoine Griezmann did the same against Bosnia & Herzegovina last week.

Deschamps’ side still sit top of Group D on nine points but their recent stuttering form is concerning.

The world champions crashed out of Euro 2020 early on despite being favourites and they haven’t bounced back so far.

Karim Benzema had success since his return on a personal level at the tournament, scoring four times, but L’Equipe suggest that his return has partnered a new imbalance within the group.

They also claim discipline within the group has started to slip with Deschamps dropping his usual authoritarian approach and allowing players to have more influence.

Meanwhile, the dressing room itself has become less united than before. Captain Hugo Lloris bemoaned ‘a lack of commitment and aggressiveness’ following the draw in Kiev last week, saying it’s ‘up to everyone to increase their level.’
