THE suspect in a quadruple murder has told investigators in Florida that he “tortured” an 11-year-old girl after allegedly shooting four members of her family dead.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd told reporters on Thursday that Bryan Riley, 33, asked the 11-year-old, “Where’s Amber?” before counting down “3, 2, 1,” and then shooting her.

The suspect, an ex-Marine, thought he had killed the girl, Judd said, but she played dead and survived seven bullet holes to her hands, thigh and stomach.
The incident took place early on Saturday morning, and Riley remains in jail on multiple charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder.
According to authorities, Riley said he questioned the young girl about the whereabouts of Amber – even though there is no-one named Amber at the home in Lakeland.
The sheriff said Riley – a Marine of four years, who served in Afghanistan and Iraq before before being honorably discharged – told investigators, “God told me to kill everyone and to rescue Amber because she’s a victim of sex trafficking.”
Judd added that there were no victims of sex crimes in the house, saying, “It was all a figment of his imagination.”
The suspect thought he had killed the girl, Judd said, but she played dead.

The girl told authorities she was asleep when her father woke her up and told her to hide in the bathroom.
Riley allegedly took her into the living room, the girl said, where he fired at her when she couldn’t provide answers to his questions.
According to investigators, the girl – who has undergone four surgeries and is in intensive care – said the suspect told her: “Do you know why I killed your parents? They’re sex traffickers.”
Judd said: “I can’t underscore enough her bravery.
“I can’t underscore enough her ability to think through of how to survive when she has just witnessed her father, her baby brother and her stepmother viciously murdered right before her very eyes.”
Before the shooting, Judd said, Riley carried out a “reconnaissance” of the house, slashing tires on two vehicles in the driveway, planning diversions, and positioning his truck so he would have a swift getaway.
The suspect was “well trained,” Judd said, adding that Riley was also a “coward.”
“He looks like a man, but he’s not a man,” Riley said. “He’s a sniveling coward.”
One victim who was killed in the incident has been identified as Justice Gleason, 40.
The other victims were described as a 33-year-old woman, Gleason’s partner; the couple’s 3-month-old boy; and the baby’s 62-year-old grandmother.
