“Oh, flags,” Dee replied, prompting Tennant to reel off a list of Conservative MPs who’ve flown the flag during televised interviews.
“Here they are,” he began. “Dominic Raab and a flag, Priti Patel and a flag, Kwasi Kwarteng and a flag, and unfortunately, Minister for Culture Oliver Dowden didn’t get an email.”
As the audience laughed at the omission in Mr Dowden’s example, Hislop took aim at Prime Minister Boris Johnson over announcing cuts to the military budget while a flag was flown behind him.
“Hurrah for us. Sorry, 10,000 of you on the dole and we’ve got the smallest army ever, that’s patriotism for you,” Hislop joked.
