Dancing On Ice poll: Should Dancing On Ice 2021 be cancelled? Have your say

0

Dancing On Ice is currently airing its 2021 season making its debut in January 2021 on ITV. However, fans were nervous about whether the skating competition would go ahead amid the coronavirus pandemic. The series is now on pause following a number of withdrawals and injuries, and some fans believe the series should be cancelled.

Should Dancing On Ice 2021 be cancelled?

Dancing On Ice made an unexpected return this year as fans were worried about how the competition would run during the current pandemic.

A total of 12 contestants took to the ice for the first time in January, with singer Myleene Klass being voted off first.

Sadly, a series of tragic events ensued which saw four competitors leave the show.

Actress Denise Van Outen left following an injury, as did reality TV star, Billie Shepherd.

Comedian Rufus Hound and Emmerdale actor Joe-Warren Plant were forced to leave after they tested positive for Covid.

Jason Donovan had to pull out of last week’s show due to a back injury, and it prompted fans to question the season’s future.

Former Corrie star Faye Brookes’s professional partner, Hamish Gaman, then had to leave the series following an injury.

She will now skate with Matt Evers for the remainder of the series when it comes back on air.

Shortly after Plant’s forced exit, ITV said it would take the show off the air this weekend.

The show will return on February 28, with a special highlights episode airing this Sunday.

With the constant upheaval, many fans have already called for the show to be cancelled or postponed.

They took to Twitter in their droves to share their thoughts on what action should be taken next.

One fan said: “Love watching @dancingonice but maybe this series needs to be cancelled too much has been going on.

“I think they should restart later on in the year from scratch and welcome everyone back to start again.”

Another said: “Freeze the show, (pun intended) and bring back all the couples who have been forced to leave, plus those still in the running, once it’s safe.

“This year is a farce and it’s no one’s fault.”

Some viewers have gone as far as calling for the show to be postponed and for ITV to bring back the whole cast next year.

On hearing Hamish’s news, one said: “Oh no. Speedy recovery Hamish. I suggest we scrap this year and start again with the original line up next year.”

Another said: “I think this year’s DOI needs to be completely cancelled and just look forward to next year’s competition. It should never have gone ahead to start with or delayed till later in the year.”

However, there are viewers who have been relying on the uplifting series at the end of each week.

They have enjoyed watching the light-hearted entertainment and would be sad to see it taken off the air.

One viewer said: “Thank you for trying to cheer us [up] by airing the show. Such a shame so many injuries, illnesses/covid.

“Ignore the negatives just keep doing what you do, some of us really appreciate it.”

Following the special Valentine’s Day episode, another fan said: “Another great show tonight! Fabulous performances, fun and good critiques!

“Thanks to everyone involved in #DancingOnIce for two hours of very much needed entertainment!”

The series has provided a much-needed escape for families in the current climate, but some believe it would be best to drop the competition for now.
