The Cowboys didn’t retain veteran coach Mike McCarthy after a disappointing 7-10 record in 2024.
Schottenheimer will lead the team after being the offensive coordinator.
With 10 days until the 2025 NFL Draft, which is on April 24, the Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints began their offseason workouts on Monday.
The two franchises joined the five other teams with new head coaches that began the programs last week – the Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, Las Vegas Raiders, New England Patriots, and New York Jets.

Teams with first-year head coaches got a head start to their workouts as the other 25 organizations begin next week.
Phase One of the programs last two weeks.
The activies of the workouts are simply meetings, strength, and conditioning, and physical rehabiliation.
Prescott has been recovering from his season-ending hamstring injury in 2024.
The 31-year-old spoke to reporters last week and revealed that he’s professing in his recovery and believes he would play right now if needed.
“If I had to play a game today, I definitely could do that,” Prescott said at the 35th annual Children’s Cancer Fund gala, via ESPN.
“It’s about moving forward healthy to make sure I can play 17 times, 20 [games] — whatever we get to when the time’s right.”
Prescott also said that he wants to participate in OTAs next month.
“I’m getting close to where I want to be. I don’t want to put a percentage on it,” Prescott said.
“I know we’ve got team activities coming up, imagine myself being involved in some sort if not all.

“Then again I just understand my age, what I’ve had, what I’ve went through, it’s about being my best in the fall.
“So I’m not rushing anything, but I’m where I want to be.”
Prescott, who signed a four-year, $230 million contract last September, was on pace for one of his worst statistical seasons, recording 11 touchdown passes and eight interceptions.
That campaign came after a career season in 2023, posting 36 touchdown passes and nine interceptions.
