Covid jab breakthrough! Data shows just 32 in hospital with virus after vaccine dose

Tuesday saw another 192 people admitted to hospital with coronavirus. But new data suggests 32 of those hospitalised in recent months have had a vaccine dose within three weeks, out of 74,405 admissions.

Research carried out by scientists from institutions such as the University of Liverpool, and revealed by The Telegraph, examined the outcomes for all patients admitted to hospital with coronavirus, including those who had received at least one jab, and had sufficient time to build immunity.

Out of 74,405 Covid-19 patients between September and March, just 32 had received a vaccine at least three weeks before.

The scientists noted the findings amount to one vaccinated patient out of 2,300.

Updated results, and detailed analysis by the UK Coronavirus Clinical Characterisation Consortium, are due to be handed to the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) on Wednesday.

It comes after the Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned Brits must not “delude ourselves” into thinking coronavirus has gone.

After praising the vaccine rollout as “making a big difference”, he said: “We don’t yet know the full extent of the protection that we’re building up. The exact strength of our defences.

“As we look at what’s happening in other countries with cases now at record numbers around the world, we cannot delude ourselves that COVID has gone away.”

The Prime Minister also announced he’s launched a new Antivirals Taskforce to identify treatments for people exposed to the virus, which it is hoped could stop the infection spreading and speed up recovery time.

It is hoped at least two effective treatments in “either in a tablet or capsule form” will be available this year.

Tuesday saw the UK administer another 373,423 vaccine doses.

So far, the UK has administered 33,032,120 first doses and 10,425,790 second doses of coronavirus vaccine.

The figures mean 49.5 percent of the UK have had a first dose and 15.6 percent have been fully vaccinated.

On Tuesday, another 2,524 cases and 33 deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test were recorded.

In total, 4,393,307 cases and 127,307 deaths have been recorded in the UK.
