On Friday the UK reported 42,076 new COVID-19 cases – a rise on Thursday’s 38,154.
The UK also recorded 121 deaths within 28 days of a positive test – down from 178 the previous day, according to government data.
It is the biggest jump in cases since July 21, when 44,104 cases were recorded.
Government data up to September 2 shows that of the 91,314,745 Covid jabs given in the UK, 48,171,998 were first doses, a rise of 40,002 on the previous day.
Some 43,142,747 were second doses, an increase of 119,375.
Earlier this week, the UK reported the highest number of daily deaths from Covid since March.
A further 207 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for coronavirus as of Wednesday, the Government said.
The daily figure is the highest since March 9 when 231 deaths were reported.
