Cops arrest drivers involved in separate Queens crashes that left two cyclists dead

Police have arrested two drivers involved in separate fatal crashes in Queens.

Yakup Mace, 46, was charged Tuesday in the latest incident, which left 47-year-old Jorge Galicia dead.

The victim was riding a bicycle near the corner of 54th Ave. and Maurice Ave. in Maspeth on Feb. 22 when he struck the driver-side door of a white box truck, cops said.

The man suffered trauma throughout his body and was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital Center, but could not be saved.

Mace, who was behind the wheel of the box truck, stayed on the scene but was later hit with numerous charges including false report of an incident, tampering with physical evidence, reckless driving and failure to yield to a pedestrian or bicyclist, police said.

He was also hit with an illegal U-turn charge, according to cops.

Galcia lived in Corona, about three miles from the crash site, and Mace lives in Cliffside Park, N.J., police said.

Also arrested Tuesday was Kyle Schreiber, 27, who cops say was behind the wheel of a tractor-trailer Dec. 28 as 81-year-old Peter Seo rode an e-bike nearby, cops said.

Seo was riding eastbound on Northern Blvd. in the left turning lane in Flushing when he made a turn to head west on the boulevard, police said.

As he made the U-turn, Seo collided with the tractor-trailer. Schreiber kept driving and the victim died at the scene, cops said.

The driver was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.

Seo lived in Flushing and Schreiver lives in Hauppauge, N.Y., police said.

Both Schreiber and Mace’s arraignments were pending in Queens Criminal Court late Tuesday night.
