Connecticut State Police are looking for information on three carjacking incidents Wednesday morning along I-95, including one that was thwarted by a gas station customer who turned his nozzle on a gunman.
The first incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. when a man parking his Audi in a Darien parking lot said two young males in a white sedan tried pulling him and his female passenger from their parked car.
The would-be victim said he punched one of the aspiring thieves, then got back into his Audi. The second alleged crook tried unsuccessfully to open the passenger side door while the suspect who’d been punched attempted to open the driver side door.
Both suspects fled the scene.
An hour later, troopers from Troop G-Bridgeport were called to an I-95 rest stop in Milford, where an unknown number of suspects in a black sedan fled after one of them tried stealing a car that was being filled with gas.
“The male victim stated he was in the process of fueling his vehicle when he was approached by an unknown individual wearing a mask who displayed a firearm,” Connecticut State Police reported. “In response, the victim proceeded to spray the suspect with gasoline.”
That ended the robbery attempt.
Roughly 10-minutes after that, police were called to another I-95 Milford rest area, where a woman said a gunman in a mask stole her Acura RDX as she was exiting the vehicle. He was reportedly accompanied by two other masked men. A stolen Kia Forte sedan with its engine running was found at that crime scene.
The Acura was recovered around 7:30 a.m. in Hamden, where it was abandoned after being involved in a crash. The Kia was also from Hamden.
