Man in his 30s is SHOT by police sparking Easter holiday long weekend road chaos as a major highway is closed off

A young man has been rushed to hospital after reportedly being shot by officers on the NSW mid north coast, closing part of a major highway before the start of the Easter long weekend.

Emergency services were called to Stadium Drive in Coffs Harbour around 10.30am on Thursday following reports a man had been shot.

The man believed to be aged in his 30s was treated for a gunshot wound to his shoulder and taken to hospital in a serious condition.  

Police have launched an investigation and closed the Pacific Highway at Stadium Drive.

‘Southbound traffic is not affected, northbound traffic could to be disrupted for some time,’ an alert read.

A police spokeswoman was unable to provide further details.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area with traffic delays in both directions on Pacific Highway between Sawtell Road in Boambee and Stadium Drive.

Wet weather added to the delays. 

‘Use an alternative route or consider delaying your trip,’ Live Traffic NSW states. 

Locals have reported Sawtell Road is also blocked both directions.

The operation has also delayed bus services by up to an hour.
