Iain Duncan Smith has told TalkRADIO’s Julia Hartley-Brewer that he is ashamed of the West for failing to get tough on China. Mr Duncan Smith raged against the regime of Xi Jinping and the Chinese Communist Party’s human rights abuses. The Conservative politician described the rise of China as a “deep distinctive threat to the way we live our lives.” He added that attempting to ignore the danger China poses was “cloud cuckoo land.”
Mr Duncan Smith said: “I am ashamed of Western governments, utterly ashamed of us.
“Because we have done nothing absolutely nothing but vague protest, very little indeed.
“China is a deep distinctive threat to the way we live our lives.
“And pretending otherwise is cloud cuckoo land.”
The former leader of the Conservative Party continued: “This a government that is intolerant, disgusting.
“They’ve committed genocide on the Uyghurs.
“The same on the Tibetans, they have been organ harvesting on the Furlong Gong.
“Christians have been persecuted, their churches smashed.”
Last week Mr Duncan Smith told Sky News: “Well firstly you have got to openly understand and recognise the distinct threat that China poses to members of the free world.
“Secondly you have got to understand that it is in fact the free world that has created this incredible leviathan China economically in a place that the Soviet Union could only ever have looked at and wondered.
“And it is the result of all of that is no rebounding back on us because that naivety of approach to China’s deep-rooted ambitions is where the real problem arises.”
“You know the brutality of them at home when you cross them they are brutal.”
