Carpets need to be cleaned regularly to keep them fresh but doing this is especially important if the carpet is stained. Some explained using washing up liquid is a great way to remove stains when cleaning.
How to clean a carpet
She wrote: “Looking for some carpet advice please.. I’ve heard that you can use bleach on carpets. Is that just some carpets?
“My problem is… spilling the tea on the carpet.
“I’ve tried some carpet cleaner diluted with water and fairy liquid and it seems to have lifted it a bit but when dry you can still see stains.
“What should I use?”
The post soon gathered comments as others were on hand to offer their advice, with many advising against using bleach.
The homeowner explained she had tried washing up liquid as part of her cleaning routine.
While she said it did not give her the best results, some suggested other methods of using the cheap hack which could give better results.
One wrote: “Try washing liquid. Pour on neat and leave for ten minutes then, with kitchen roll, dab and dab and dab until absorbed.
“Do not rub, repeat if needed.”
A second added: “My stock for carpets and upholstery is a thick fairy liquid foam.
“Spread over the area with a cloth, work into the worst of stain, then wipe off with clean cloth.
“Only use the foam, not the water.”
Washing up liquid can provide a quick fix as it is something many people will already have to hand.
One social media user suggested using another cupboard staple to achieve results.
They stated using vinegar could get rid of tough stains.
“Pour white vinegar and put an old tea towel over the area,” they said.
“Iron the spot it may take a few goes but it works. It also works on red wine stains.”
