Gardening expert Carol Klein has shared her tips exclusively with Express.co.uk for growing plants in small spaces as well as sunny and shady spots. Carol’s main advice was to choose the correct plants for the conditions you have. “You want to choose plants that are appropriate for the kind of conditions you have,” she said.
“They’ll thrive on absolutely anything.”
Carol also said that if you don’t have pots, you can grow small plants in bricks that have holes in.
She recommended growing sempervivums which need hardly any soil.
She said the plants are “almost indestructible” and have a huge range of different shapes and patterns.
Quite a lot of them grow from seed or you can buy the plants in garden centres.
However, Carol said not to put the plants straight outside at the moment as the weather is too cool.
“Be prepared to look after them, water well of course once you’ve started it once you get into the spring and summer,” she added.
“But also be prepared to give them a little bit of liquid feed.”
