Can key workers get the vaccine? Phase 2 rollout begins in UK

0

The UK vaccine rollout programme is gaining momentum, with more than 15 million people now vaccinated in the UK. Now the top four priority groups have been offered vaccines, phase two of the vaccine rollout plan has now started.

Who can get their Covid vaccines now?

People over the age of 65 will be the next group to receive their vaccine invites over the coming weeks.

People over the age of 65 are included in group five on the priority list set out by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI).

Group five invites will also be given out alongside invites to people in group six, which includes people aged 16 to 64 with underlying health conditions which put them at greater risk from COVID-19 (clinically vulnerable).

This includes people over the age of 50 and anyone aged 16 to 64 with underlying health conditions which put them at greater risk from coronavirus.

After all people in priority groups one to nine have been vaccinated, the Government is aiming to offer a vaccine to the remaining adult population.

However, the priority list for the millions of people left to be vaccinated has not been announced yet.

The Joint Commission on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) may decide key workers should get the vaccine before some other people.

But this will likely be decided further in the future when vaccine rollout has progressed more.

Almost half a million people have signed a Government petition to prioritise teachers, school and childcare staff for Covid vaccines.

Other people who have been considered key workers during the pandemic include people involved in food production and sale, police staff.

Transport staff, postal and delivery workers and journalists, among others, have also been defined as key workers.
