California man groped female passenger on international flight: feds

A California man was charged Monday for allegedly groping a female passenger during an international flight.

Rajesh Kumar Kapoor, 56, of Sacramento, is accused of touching a woman’s chest and inner thigh without her consent during a United Airlines flight from Seoul’s Incheon International Airport to San Francisco International Airport on Jan. 16, the Department of Justice said.

No other details about the onboard incident were released.

Kapoor was charged with one count of abusive sexual contact and faces up to two years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted. He was arrested Monday and released pending trial. He’s scheduled to appear in federal court in May.

Similar cases onboard domestic flights have led to guilty verdicts and federal prison sentences. Last week, a Seattle man was convicted after exposing himself to other passengers during a cross-country flight in 2020. In February, an American Airlines flight attendant was ordered to be held until trial after allegedly filming children in a plane’s bathroom.

The FBI released a public service announcement after one such incident in 2023.
