CHRIS WILDER is favourite for the Burnley job.

That’s according to bookmakers Betfair, who’ve shortened odds on the Middlesbrough boss replacing Sean Dyche at Turf Moor.

Bodo/Glimt boss Kjetil Knutsen was available at 12/1 to get the Burnley job

Wilder, 54, was available at 9/2 shortly after Dyche was given his marching orders.

He’s now offered at 6/5 following a flurry of activity in the betting market.

However, there’s now emerging competition from Bodo/Glimt boss Kjetil Knutsen, who’s shortened from 10/1 to 11/4 overnight.

Knutsen, 53, was in charge as Norwegian champions Bodo/Glimt hammered Roma 6-1 in the Europa Conference League — the heaviest defeat of Jose Mourinho’s managerial career.

Elsewhere there’s plenty of competition with several high-profile candidates believed to be in contention.

Sam Allardyce and Nuno Espirito Santo are single-figure prices, while the likes of Michael Carrick , Slaven Bilic and David Unsworth are around the 20/1 mark.

Rooney, whose Derby were relegated from the Championship, was offered at 3/1 but has since drifted markedly to 10/1 after claims he’ll remain at Pride Park.

Dyche was dismissed with the Clarets in 18th position and four points adrift from safety.

The Premier League’s longest serving manager, Dyche had lost five of his last six top-flight games and managed just four victories all season.

Burnley, with under-23 manager Mike Jackson in charge, took a point against West Ham on Sunday but is likely to get the job going forward.

The Athletic claim are seeking an interim appointment until the end of the season before finding a long-term solution in the summer.

However, those plans could alter if they find the right person.

Responding to the links, Wilder refused to distance himself from the role.

He said: “I’ve not looked at it. I’m not going to come out with anything in terms of this, that or the other.”
