THE theory that Gabby Petito’s fugitive fiance Brian Laundrie is hiding out on the Appalachian Trail is “certainly plausible,” a former FBI agent has claimed.

Ex-FBI Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer revealed her thoughts on Brian’s whereabouts as the 23-year-old, a person of interest in Gabby’s disappearance, has not yet been located.

Speaking to NewsNation on Monday night, Jennifer said: “Well, I think it’s certainly plausible. It’s one of the possibilities that has to be considered.

“I believe he is a camper, I think he likes that sort of arena that is the mountains, and I think that’s obvious by the trip he chose to take with Gabby Petito.”

She suggested Brian’s love for the outdoors and hiking in remote areas of the United States fits the Appalachian Trail “scenario” or theory claiming the fugitive could be found there.

When asked if she thinks authorities are taking a different focus, away from the Carlton Reserve in Florida, Jennifer said it appears police have “abandoned their true search efforts, their grid search” in that area.

Jenner continued: “I think they are concentrating on different leads received from different people to guide them as to where they are looking.”

The search for Brian has reached its fifth week as authorities track down leads in an ongoing attempt to find Gabby’s fiance.

Authorities are currently moving forward with their investigation in the Appalachian Trail while many internet sleuths still believe that Brian is hiding out under his parents’ flower bed.

In regards to Gabby’s autopsy results — which were revealed on October 12 by Teton County Coroner Dr Brent Blue to be death by strangulation — Jennifer expects not to learn anymore “until the prosecution stages of this case come.”

Last month, private investigator Bill Warner claimed Brian was alive and on the run in the Appalachian Trail after receiving help to escape.

The investigator branded Brian a “mastermind” for leaving behind his wallet, ID, driver’s license, and credit cards.

He also claimed Brian — who was reported missing by his family on September 17 — appeared “well aware of law enforcement tracking techniques.”

Over the weekend, a couple came face-to-face with US Marshals on the Appalachian Trail because of a man’s resemblance to Brian.

Severin Beckwith and Anna Brettmann had been taking a nap at a lodge at Fontana Village Resort near the trail when their door burst open.

“Next thing I see is a bunch of guys with riot shields with ‘U.S. Marshals’ written on them,” said Severin who had guns pointed at his face – according to the New Yorker.

Severin, who was still in his underwear when he was handcuffed by authorities, thinks this happened due to his resemblance to Brian.

Brian is also known to have hiked the trail the couple was on.

After it was determined by the marshals that they didn’t have Laundrie in their custody after he showed his ID, Severin was released with the suggestion that he should shave his beard.

Meanwhile, dozens of people have claimed to see Brian in places such as Canada and South America.
