Body found in home of man who allegedly pulled gun on pastor in Pennsylvania

A body was found in the home of a man who earlier in the day Sunday had drawn a gun and attempted to shoot a Pennsylvania pastor .

Bernard Polite, 26, was arrested Sunday after allegedly walking into Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church in North Braddock and trying to shoot pastor Glenn Germany. The incident was captured on the church’s live stream.

“He pulled the gun; it clicked,” Germany told WPIX-TV. “You heard him shoot it. God jammed the gun so the bullet didn’t come out.”

Another congregant tackled the attempted shooter and wrestled the gun away from him.

“He could have lost his life in that struggle,” Germany told WTAE. “But he sacrificed himself for everyone, and he’s the hero.”

After his arrest, Polite reportedly told police “God told him to” shoot Germany. He also said he wanted to go to jail to clear his mind.

Investigators said he was not a member of the church and went inside around 1 p.m. after hearing music.

Later Sunday, police found the body of Derek Polite, 56, shot to death inside the younger man’s home in Braddock. The two are relatives, but it’s unclear what their specific relationship is.

Allegheny County police are investigating, but so far no charges have been filed related to the discovery. However, Polite was arraigned Monday on charges related to the church incident, including attempted homicide and aggravated assault.
