Benidorm's new £491m plan for 20 huge hotels that's resort's biggest ever development

A new £491m plan for Benedorm will see 20 massive new hotels built as part of the resort’s biggest-ever development.

Benedorm’s city council is expected to rubber-stamp the Ensanche Levante Partial Plan, a colossal venture which will also see over 2,300 apartment units introduced across towering structures of at least 20 floors.

The new development will span an impressive 600,000 square metres and will mark its largest-ever urban development.

About 65 percent of the land will be given to public amenities and green spaces, while the remaining 35 percent will cater to residential, tourist residences, and hotel constructions.

The city’s mayor Toni Perez said: “It is the most important urban sector in the municipality in terms of surface area included in the 1990 General Plan.

“The properties will have a minimum height of twenty floors, so the vertical city model characteristic of Benidorm will be followed, which has made us a benchmark in terms of sustainability.”

The project will also feature a vast central park exceeding 60,000sqm, nearly 13,000sqm of gardens and over 23,000sqm of pedestrian space.

Architects promise they will transform Benedorm into a breathable, liveable city.

It comes after the area has already seen significant hotel sector investment including the Magic Pirates Island resort and Gran Delfin hotel-residential project.

The city is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the Costa Blanca just under three million visiting it each year.

Despite its tacky reputation the city has actually seen an increase in popularity among holidaymakers since the pandemic, with 3.8 percent more tourists visiting it last year than in its most popular year, 2019.

It comes after the resort’s authorities warned British tourists would be fined £2.500 for misbehaving on its golden sands.
