The BBC presenter was accused of showing bias after stating that anyone who was disinterested in the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral was “wrong”. Mr Marr made the comments on The Andrew Marr Show on 18 April. This was the day after the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

The presenter’s comments caused 234 complaints that he was exhibiting a pro-royal bias.

Following an internal BBC investigation, Marr has been cleared of those accusations.

During the broadcast, Mr Marr said: “One story really only on all the front pages, and one thought, ‘The Queen left alone, Alone in her Grief’, says the Sunday People.

“I’m not going to share all this on the front pages because basically, they have the same idea.

“It’s not your call to make, it’s a family tragedy, of course, but so many have lost their loved ones.

“We don’t need someone like you to judge us.”

The BBC received a flood of complaints after the funeral because two regular programmes were cancelled, EastEnders and MasterChef.

However, the BBC described the Prince’s funeral as “a significant event which generated a lot of interest both nationally and internationally.

“We acknowledge some viewers were unhappy with the level of coverage given, and the impact this had on the billed TV and Radio schedules.

“We do not make such changes without careful consideration.

“The decisions made reflect the role the BBC plays as the national broadcaster, during moments of national significance.”

The Duke of Edinburgh died on 9 April at Windsor Castle at the age of 99.
