Barcelona and Arsenal ‘held talks over swap deal for Gabriel – with Spanish giants still hoping to use Memphis Depay, Neto and Riqui Puig as bait to sign much-admired defender’
- Brazilian centre back Gabriel joined Arsenal from Lille in 2020 for £27million
- Barcelona are reportedly interested and are keen to sign a left-footed defender
- If they were to sell, Arsenal would be keen to facilitate a swap deal of sorts
- Memphis Depay, Neto and Riqui Puig could all fit the bill to move to London
Barcelona and Arsenal have reportedly held talks about Brazilian centre back Gabriel moving to Spain – and a swap deal of sorts is on the table too.
The Gunners defender joined in 2020 for £27million from Lille, and has made 27 Premier League appearances this season in forming a strong partnership with £50m man Ben White.
Yet according to Spanish outlet SPORT, LaLiga giants Barca are interested in the 24-year-old and are looking at signing a left-footed central defender this summer.
Barcelona and Arsenal have held talks about Brazilian centre back Gabriel moving to Spain
Riqui Puig and Memphis Depay are two players Arsenal would reportedly be keen on in a swap deal
The report details that Barca are looking to add defensive players this summer, with the club willing to let Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet go.
With Gerard Pique, Eric Garcia and Ronald Araujo the current centre backs and Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen a key target, Barca are also looking at Gabriel to potentially strengthen their defence.
Yet while talks have taken place, no agreement has yet been reached and Arsenal would be keen for a swap deal of sorts – with Neto, Memphis Depay and Riqui Puig potentially on the table to move the other way.
But a lot will depend on whether Arsenal can secure Champions League football for next season.
Goalkeeper Neto is another player who has been mentioned in any potential swap deal
The Gunners were in the ascendancy 10 days ago but consecutive defeats to Crystal Palace and Brighton have handed the initiative to fierce rivals Tottenham.
Yet Arsenal are just three points behind with a game in hand – and they place Tottenham in what could be a Champions League qualifier showdown on May 12.
Barcelona, however, are second in LaLiga, four points clear of fifth-placed Real Betis with a game in hand.
