BAFTA viewers 'switch off' over confusion of 'canned laughter'

Taking to Twitter to share their thoughts, viewers thought that it was “canned laughter and applause”, however, a spokesperson for BAFTA has confirmed that it was a live audience watching the programme.

One unimpressed viewer commented: “Switch off the canned audience it’s distracting and like a black mirror episode!

“This canned laughter on the #BAFTA are making this unwatchable,” another tweeted.

A third added: “This canned laughter is ridiculous. I’m going to switch channels.”

A fourth commented: “Not sure how you could have done it any differently, but the dubbed in audience laughter, noise, whatever at the #BAFTAS is very off-putting.”
