Residents in houses along the street have been evacuated as police try to negotiate with the man. Officers were called to the road in Bolton, Greater Manchester, at 9am and have been there since.

Witnesses told Manchester Evening News the man had axe but police are yet to confirm this. It is reported that armed police and riot officers are at the scene and a drone was sent into the air.

“The incident is ongoing and NWAS are also in attendance.”
